What will ICAO do? It does not have a merger partner despite its desire to merge.

May 29, 2012 at 9:55 am t. advisor king #12104

ICAO will recognize that the window of opportunity has come and gone. Its members do not support any type of merger and have made that message abundantly clear. They have no mandate from the members and no moral or practical authority to pursue any sort of merger. ICAO will focus on ensuring the new status quo is maintained.

If the CGAO and CMAO merged together as what’s happening in Alberta, Can ICAO afford that to be alone?

May 29, 2012 at 10:47 am billk #12122

ICAO is happily single and also happy to remain so, should no merger partner in Ontario arise. The bottom line is ICAO, soon to become CPA Ontario will be joining CPA Canada. All their members will become CPA, CA members. What’s the big deal if Ontario has only CPA, CA’s and no CPA CMA’s and CPA CGA’s?

Yes, why not? They’ve been alone and thriving for a hundred years. A merger of CGAO and CMAO won’t change the amount of accounting business and employment opportunities in the province, nor will it change the total number of accountants competing for those jobs or clients.

Some posters keep posting, “ICAO needs to merge”. I keep asking, “Why?”

Still no answer.

Dancey is pushing this thing from a National level … that is why. Nothing will stand in his way. Of the CAs, 9/10 provinces are on board (only Alberta being the lone-wolf) … there are a lot of question marks surrounding the merger(s), however, one thing is certain, the CAs will become a part of CPA Canada. And, eventually, all of Canada will trend that way …
___
I personally think that things will progress quick now that the CGAs are out of the picture (for now) … The CAs & CMAs (Dancey and Joy) are spearheading this. Dancey wants his grave to read: Kevin Dancey, CPA. It will be his legacy.
___
TAK – my question for you: Why is Dancey (and Joy for that matter) so insistent that this merger trend forward despite all of the messiness / breakdowns, etc.?

May 29, 2012 at 11:12 am ca in hk #12126

boom – Your statement about “Dancey is pushing this thing from a National level” doesn’t lend support to “ICAO neesds to merge”. Dancey pushing it doesn’t mean ICAO needing it.
—————————————————-
Your statement about “eventually, all of Canada will trend that way” supports my opinion that CGA will eventually come back to the merger discussion table. They have no more ammunition to arm them to walk away unless CAs pull the plug.

Does Dancey have other accounting designation other than CA?

@tak

If there is absolutely no reason for ICAO to merge, then you must question the motive or the intelligence of the ICAO leadership.

May 29, 2012 at 11:26 am boomgoesthedynamite #12128

ca_in_hk – OK, answer me this (if TAK won’t): Why is Dancey pushing this thing so hard? Do you have any idea? As your supreme leader, why is forsaking you?
__
And I have no idea if he has another designation – it really shouldn’t matter to the question. Dancey (and Joy) are the driving forces.

A national merger without provincial mergers is meaningless. I’m not even sure what that means.

boom – your characterization of the drive to merge in relation to a grave marker gives one considerable pause for thought.

harj – I question the logic and ask to see the case supporting a merger, which I have yet to see. Maybe it is there and we haven’t seen it.

May 29, 2012 at 11:35 am happy #12130

TAK: a national merger without a provincial merger would solve some issues…some members would not have to pay CICA (or CPA Canada) fees. Also, there would be one voice representing accountants in international discussions…all without changing our designations.

TAK – you are still avoiding the question – why Dancey pushing it so hard? I would love to know your thoughts on this.

May 29, 2012 at 11:57 am ca in hk #12150

You may call the CEO on this number: (416) 204-3333. Nothing better than asking the question directly.

ca_in_hk – why don’t you call him and give him a piece of your mind like you’ve been doing anonymously through this forum the past year?

May 29, 2012 at 12:01 pm ca in hk #12154

I thought you want your question answered, no?

May 29, 2012 at 12:04 pm boomgoesthedynamite #12155

ca_in_hk – Denial is not a river in Egypt. You should call and ask why your leader has forsaken you and report back.

May 29, 2012 at 12:15 pm ca in hk #12158

boom – I’m confused. Was it you that posted this question: Why is Dancey pushing this thing so hard? Do you have any idea? As your supreme leader, why is forsaking you?
———————————————————
I’m not interested in the above questions and have no intention to seek answers for them. Feel free to call if you remain interested.

May 29, 2012 at 12:31 pm boomgoesthedynamite #12162

ca_in_hk – instead of you being so steadfast against the merger, you should ask your leader why? Wouldn’t that be a rational move in order to get a better understanding? BTW – send my regards to your mother-in-law. She must be excited now that the CGAs have pulled the plug.

May 29, 2012 at 12:37 pm ca in hk #12164

Boom – I have no idea whether it is a rational move. I’m not interested in it either. Anyway feel free to call and tell him that working for CAs in Big 4 is taking its toll on you mentally and physically.

Trying to silence opinions and hide facts again. Sigh!

May 29, 2012 at 2:23 pm billk #12199

john2, Ontario and Alberta are different. In Alberta CGAs and CMAs support the merger process. In Ontarion ICAO only supports the merger process. CGAs and CMAs in Ontario don’t want any part with CPA Canada.
