BIOGRAPHY

Alan joined the CPA Canada Board of Directors in September 2020.

He is currently a Partner and the National Leader of Forensic Disputes & Investigations at BDO. Since 2000, Alan has practiced exclusively in forensic accounting with a particular focus on financial investigations and economic loss calculations. He has been retained as an expert to provide opinions on financial and accounting aspects of commercial disputes for organizations ranging from private enterprises to multi-national public companies. 

He is a Chartered Business Valuator, Certified Fraud Examiner and is Certified in Financial Forensics with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Alan has served as an elected member of the CPA Ontario Council, most recently completing his term as chair in 2019. He also served as secretary, chair of the Governance Committee and vice-chair of CPA Ontario. 

In addition, he has previously served as a member of the Boards of Directors of the Scarborough Health Network and the Homes First Society. 

Alan has lectured on various accounting topics at the University of Toronto, York University and Osgoode Hall Law School. He has also held faculty appointments at the University of Toronto and the Schulich School of Business at York University. 

Alan has provided expert testimony before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench, the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada, and in various quasi-judicial hearings.
